Today we only traveled about 127km to a Mountain resort town called Grand Lake.
GL is the western entrance to the Rocky Mountain National Park. We are well and truly in the Rockies, and its not our first time either.
We arrived here about 11.30am, but on the way called into some commercially run Hot Springs. The complex consisted of 24 pools cascading down the side of a hill, however they didn't provide food but did provide accommodation in nice rooms, the guide said we are near the railway line but after a long soak you wouldn't hear the train....just at that moment it rumbled through, blowing its whistle ...the sound was deafening
We decided to give it a miss.
On arriving in GL we were told the park was closed after the first 10 miles, and no one knew when the road would reopen.
After lunch we decided to see what we could even given the weather conditions, just as we got the 10 mile gate they opened the road...so off we went , we got half way along the road between the west and east entrances..we reached a height of 12000 feet, and by this time the ground had its first cover of snow for the winter, the fog was getting quite thick so we though half way was enough.
On the way down we did a 4km return walk to the start of the Colorado river...this major river travels hundreds of miles and ends up a big river indeed,
