"RIDGWAY" A TASTE OF THE OLD WEST AN AREA WITH A LONG HISTORY.

We left Moab this morning at a reasonable time and took a minor short cut road towards Ridgway, at the time just a name to put into the gps, it was a great choice.  The first part of the road was overlooked by a high mountain range which was dry and they mine minerals from them including uranium.  We called into a tourist info centre on this road that we had met four cars coming from the opposite direction and none following us, the lady there was very helpful and gave us lots of stuff to take away. W you taking any went on our way Ron said aren't you  taking any pics which I replied ' no I have seen this scenery before' , but a little further on the scenery changed and I couldn't help myself  the snow-capped mountain range was an  amazing sight. We finally got to Ridgway and what a lovely little town very laid back and old and not at all pretentious like some of the other snow towns we have visited. We booked into our accommodation , had lunch and then headed off to the Orvis Hot Springs, a clothing optional place with a number of heated pools at different temps and had a very relaxing afternoon, plus quite a bit of excitement, because there was a family of snakes who wanted to get into the water too. A young man told us they were not poisonous but we kept our eye on them. One managed to crawl over a lady who had become very relaxed and shut her eyes, she didn't panic too much and was quite good about it. We all cleared the pool when another headed towards us. BUT we did have a nice arvo in a nice setting.  This evening we ate at the True Grit Cafe named after the movie in which John Wayne starred on the movie set in this town.
